Remember when we had pink Easter candy ice cream
And the caption said, "it's pink for a reason we can't tell you about yet, but has nothing to do with flavor, but I can't tell you why," Remember that? It was 2019. And the reason is because I had to make 3 different batches of pink ice cream so the director of a movie could choose which shade of pink he wanted for his movie. And the reason a director was checking pink shades of ice cream is because we were hired to make pink ice cream for the Ryan Reynolds movie Free Guy, a movie in which the only flavor of ice cream is bubblegum. The movie comes out Friday, and all this time I've been wondering if the ice cream made it into the film because I was never sure, but it turns out it did and it was in some previews this week,including this one. They used a pink and green version of our logo, too. It's pretty neat that people all over the world are going to see ice cream Pete made in our store because Noah from Gather Here works on movie props and gave us a call. On Saturday, August 28th at 5:30, we'll be hostingour first wine dinner with our friends at Tozi Imports. Chef James LaVigne will be preparing a 5-course menu with each course paired with a different wine showcasing the variety of wines being produced in Mexico. These tickets are limited in that there aren't many of them available and we'll only be doing one seating.5 courses, 5 wines, $80. It's a treat and you deserve it.Become ungovernable.Pink salt ponds.
To that end, this week's Friday night guided wine tasting with Chris is 3 Mexican wines. A Sauvignon Blanc, an unoaked Chardonnay, and a Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Tasting is 5-7PM Friday, three pours for $10.Order ahead if you'd like, or just show up. Also we used to do Make Your Own Dream Ice Cream Class before the pandemic and we're going to start doing that again. The way it works is you get a group together and come up with an ice cream flavor you want to make then you tell us that flavor and give us your money and then you come in and we make the ice cream together. The classes are about an hour to an hour and a half depending on the number of questions, and you get to take home some of the ice cream after the class when it's ready. Both shops will have Free Guy Bubblegum ice cream available for scoops on Friday maybe possibly Saturday. Free Guy Bubblegum is pink sweet cream which we made without bubblegum flavor because I didn't think it was fair to make the actors eat that much bubblegum ice cream. It's pink, it's got gumballs, it tastes like sweet cream. This ends exactly how you think it will. Afancy slideandfancy lightning, both at a baseball game.
Sam has been with us since we opened and she's leaving to be thepastry chef at Karen's new restaurant. More details soon, but before she leaves we're going to have a dessert night where she makes a bunch of fancy desserts for you. August 27th. Save the date.
We've got a bunch of new bears I mean beersin stock from White Lion. We're having a variety of scheduling challenges as we endeavor to continue operations without anyone getting burned out. (Come work with us if you're interested.) One result of this is we're not able to offer our dinner menu every evening, especially mid-week. When we don't have dinner, we have lunch. Earnest Drinks in Kendall 11-9 Monday-Friday, 12-8 on Saturday, 12-7 on Sunday.
This is the same paragraph every week about needing a cook. Like every other restaurant in the area, we're still hoping to hire a cook. That link may be dead, but we still need a cook. Send a note if you're interested. We're going to try to pay you right, give you a good lifestyle outside of work, and give you schedule flexibility in case you have other stuff going on. Our next cook will be guaranteed at least $18 an hour, room to grow, and we demand you maintain a life outside of the shop because there are more important things than work. We're not open late, so you won't be working late. Additionally, our shop has a brand new HVAC so you won't be sweating your ass off on a poorly ventilated hot line with someone screaming at you.
There weren't any freezer issues this week yet, but it was 95+ on Wednesday and forecast to be that hot through Saturday and the hardening cabinet doesn't work when it's that hot so I shut it off. Which is kind of a freezer issue because it means we can't make more ice cream in Union Square for a few days, which is kind of an issue. We'll make it.
